Interview with Palestinian singer-songwriter Haya Zaatry at Casa Árabe

December 20, 2021
in Leisure, Music

Tomorrow Tuesday at 6 p.m., Casa Árabe in Madrid will broadcast on its YouTube channel a summary of the meeting it organised on 30 November with the Palestinian singer-songwriter Haya Zaatry, in which she shares her views on Palestinian identity and the independent music scene in her homeland.

On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, this meeting took place under the title Frontiers and Promises. Haya Zaatry is a Palestinian singer-songwriter, architect and researcher, born and raised in Nazareth and based in the city of Haifa. She is the co-founder of “Eljam”, a non-profit community project that aims to empower and enhance the Palestinian underground music scene. Through her melodies and lyrics, Haya, whose musical training is self-taught, invites the listener to explore the innermost parts of her soul, while challenging the boundaries of social, political and gender issues. In 2017 she received a full scholarship to participate in the XABACA project, a month-long artist residency in Barcelona, with the aim of empowering and connecting female artists from the Arab world. During the project, Haya starred alongside Lebanese and Tunisian artists in the documentary Borders and Promises, named after one of her songs and the concert at Casa Árabe. Haya is currently working on her debut album Rahawan.
