The City Council of the capital and Iberia Express have christened an A321 of the airline with the name of Madrid, an initiative with which both entities seek to promote the image of the capital as a tourist destination in Europe, and “encourage the recovery of short and medium-haul connectivity”.
The event, held at the Iberia company’s facilities in La Muñoza, was attended by the councillor responsible for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, and the president and CEO of Iberia Express, Carlos Gómez, as reported by the consistory in a statement.
The plane called Madrid also recalls the capital on the inside, as it has special headrests on the passengers’ seats with images of monuments and emblematic buildings of the city.
The project forms part of the strategy that the Delegate Tourism Department is carrying out with different companies to boost air connectivity, while at the same time it means “continuing to commit to sustainability in tourism” given that it is the “most sustainable aircraft” in the Airbus fleet.
Maíllo explained that the City Council “will continue to work hand in hand with companies in the sector, who are great ambassadors for the capital to promote Madrid as a destination and boost tourism in the capital”.
“Initiatives like this are very beneficial in terms of stimulating connectivity in the short and medium term and the arrival of visitors from strategic European markets that are essential for Madrid,” he stressed.
