The Embassy of the Czech Republic invites you this evening at 7 p.m. to a subtitled screening of the new Czech film Havel, at the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque (Calle Conde Duque 9-11, Madrid), on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the death of the former Czechoslovak and Czech president, playwright and writer Václav Havel.
For his activities at the head of the Charter 77 movement, Hável was charged with sedition and sentenced to prison in 1979; this experience increased his reputation as a dissident inside and outside Czechoslovakia. After his release in 1984, Hável continued to engage in political activities and his prestige caused him to be elected leader of the opposition group Civic Forum in 1989, encouraged by the perestroika already established in the Soviet Union. To attend the screening, an RSVP is required at Eventos.Madrid@mzv.cz.
