Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has appointed Sos Avetisyan, who since December 2018 held a seat as a member of parliament in the Assembly representing the ruling “My Step” bloc, as Armenia’s new ambassador to Spain.
Avestiyan replaces Vladimir Karmirshalyan, who has been the head of the Armenian Embassy in Madrid since September 2019.
The new ambassador, 32, graduated from the Department of Spanish and Literature of the Faculty of Romance-German Studies at the University of Yerevan and later from the School of Diplomacy of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also studied Russia and Eastern Europe at St Antony’s Colleg, Oxford University.
He has also worked at the ‘Centre of Expertise in Cultural Values’ of the Armenian Ministry of Culture. He has been a university lecturer and programme officer at the Open Society Foundation.
