On the occasion of the events in memory of the former Czech president Václav Havel, the Fundación Carlos de Amberes, together with the Czech Centre and the Embassy of the Czech Republic are organising tomorrow, Friday at 7 p.m., an adaptation of the play Letters to Olga by the theatre company of director Carlos Be, a dramatised reading of Olga and Václav.
From 1979 to 1983, Václav Havel possessed a unique but valuable privilege as a writer. This consisted of permission, granted by the authorities of the Czechoslovak prison where he was serving a sentence for crimes against state security, to write one letter a week to someone in his family, after which he chose his wife, Olga Havlová. Havel took advantage of this humiliating and repressive circumstance to talk about himself, his past, his hopes, his fears, the theatre and his own hobbies. Free admission. To confirm attendance, please send an e-mail to eventos.madrid@mzv.cz.
