Until 9 January, the Teatro Reina Victoria in Madrid presents the play Eva contra Eva, starring the actress Ana Belén and directed by Silvia Munt.
Eva contra Eva is a play inspired by the classic All About Eve, by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Two actresses, from different generations, must play the same character. In this coincidence, two ways of understanding life and the profession collide. The younger actress struggles to get the chance to make a name for herself. The older actress struggles so that the passing of the years does not make her disappear from the stage. But that doesn’t necessarily make them enemies, they are complementary looks that can learn from each other, without any need to destroy each other. Will they realise it or will they end up devouring each other?
The characters in this play (the director, the critic, the manager and the two actresses) use theatre to talk about life and life to talk about theatre. They devote themselves to this profession with such intensity and devotion that they often lose the ability to laugh at themselves. And it is in the excessive importance they give to their vulnerabilities, turning them into mere vanities, where the comedy lies. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
