The seminar Relaunching relations between Latin America and the European Union: strategic autonomy, advanced cooperation and digital, green and social recovery is taking place today and tomorrow at Casa América, starting at 9 a.m.
Relations between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean have a long history, and, in particular, more than two decades have passed since the first EU-Latin America and the Caribbean Summit (Rio de Janeiro, 28-29 June 1999), which established a “bi-regional strategic partnership” with three pillars: high-level political dialogue (Summits of Heads of State and Government and other bodies), advanced development co-operation and trade and investment promotion through a network of “Association Agreements” which, if the EU-Mercosur Agreement is ratified, will cover most of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The full programme of the conferences, which will feature speeches by Josep Borrell, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and Juan Fernández Trigo, Secretary of State for Latin America and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, among other authorities, can be consulted here.
