Author: Géraldine Schwarz.
As part of the series From Book to Screen. The Holocaust through film and literature, the Red de Bibliotecas Públicas Municipales de Madrid and the Centro Sefarad-Israel present a round table discussion on the book Los amnésicos, by Géraldine Schwarz, tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Ana María Matute Library in Madrid (Calle Isaac Albéniz, 1).
In the German city of Mannheim, where her father comes from, Géraldine Schwarz discovers that her grandfather Karl bought a company in 1938, at a very low price, from its Jewish owners, the Löbmmans, who were later murdered in Auschwitz. After the war, confronted with an heir who demands reparations, Karl Schwarz opts for denial of his responsibilities as a Mitläufer, i.e. those who, like most Germans, “went with the flow”. Thus begins an exciting investigation that covers three generations of recent European history and forces us to reflect on the risks of forgetfulness and the rise of neo-fascism on our continent. The round table will be attended by Concha Díaz Berzosa, vice-president of Amical de Mauthaussen and other fields; Yessica San Román, director of the Education, Holocaust and Anti-Semitism area of Centro Sefarad-Israel, and Javier Quevedo Arcos, director of the Gerardo Diego Library. To attend, it is necessary to confirm attendance via this link. The round table can also be followed online via the Facebook page of the Madrid Municipal Public Library Network and the Centro Sefarad-Israel YouTube channel.
