The Council of Ministers yesterday authorized voluntary contributions to international organizations, programs and funds and other entities of an international nature for a total amount of 39,167,760 euros.

“In accordance with its political priorities, Spain has been regularly making voluntary contributions to various international organizations, programs and funds and other entities of an international nature dedicated to the defense and promotion of human rights, the strengthening of international peace and security, and the fight against international terrorism and crime,” the Executive indicated.

The main voluntary contributions are the 4.3 million Euros that will go to the Covid Projects and the Health Care in Danger initiative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the four million Euros that will correspond, respectively, to the MIRPS Support Platform (for refugees and displaced persons from Central America) of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and for the Emergency Program of the World Health Organization (WHO).

In addition, the Government will provide 3 million euros to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA), 2.51 million to UNICEF’s program to support girls in Afghanistan and 2 million to the UNDP’s United Nations Volunteers Program.

The contributions also include 1.7 million for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and 1.5 million euros, respectively, for the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) maternal and child health projects in Afghanistan, ICRC’s Sahel projects, and UNITAID’s COVID, HIV/AIDS, malaria and hepatitis C projects.

The rest of the voluntary contributions include contributions of more than one million euros for the JPO Program for UNDESA, for projects in the Western Mediterranean and West Africa of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), for the MIRPS Fund of the Organization of American States (OAS) and for the WHO malaria program.

In addition, Spain will contribute half a million euros to UN WOMEN, the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Peacebuilding Fund and the UN Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF). The UN Trust Fund for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the Union for the Mediterranean will receive EUR 350,000, as will the IAEA for the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowships.

The remaining major voluntary contributions (between 150,000 and 327. 327,500) will go to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the IOM-led Migration Network Fund, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Council of Europe, the Department of Political Affairs and Peacebuilding (DAPPB) of the UN Secretary-General, the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSCE) and the International Commission against the Death Penalty (ICDC).
