The PP is asking the government to ask the Spanish embassy in Havana to support the ‘Civic March’ called for tomorrow, the 15th, in Cuba and to protect those who freely want to exercise their right to demonstrate, according to the party’s Secretary for International Relations, Valentina Martínez, on her Twitter account.
Martínez, accompanied by the deputy spokesperson for Foreign Affairs in the Congress of Deputies, Pablo Hispan; and the spokesperson for Latin America in Congress, Belén Hoyo, met on Friday at the PP headquarters with the promoters of the ‘Civic March’ that will take place tomorrow on the island, promoted by the Archipiélago Group, to demand that Cubans can exercise their right to demonstrate “without coercion or violence”.
The ‘Civic March’, which has called for hundreds of events and demonstrations in Cuba and the rest of the world, aims to protest peacefully against violence on the island, to demand respect for human rights and “the release of political prisoners”, and to advocate a peaceful and democratic solution for all Cubans.
After Friday’s meeting, the PP said it would demand the release of “all political prisoners on the island” and insist on calling on the Spanish government to “firmly condemn the dictatorial regime”, as well as support through the embassy for all democrats “who are suffering persecution in Cuba” and for the European Union to promote sanctions against the regime’s leaders.
