Acciona will design and build a new hospital in Chile, with an estimated investment of 261 million dollars (228 million euros), after winning the contract through its subsidiary Acciona Concesiones Hospitalarias.
The Chilean Ministry of Public Works estimates that this new construction will benefit the 723,000 inhabitants of the region in which the project is located, and that construction could begin in the first quarter of next year.
Acciona has been working in Chile since 1993, which has become one of its strategic markets in South America. The company already has experience in the comprehensive management of hospital infrastructure construction projects, such as the Infanta Sofía Hospital in Spain, the Bajío Regional Hospital in Mexico and the Marga Provincial Hospital in Chile.
The Spanish company has also recently entered the bidding, together with ACS, Sacyr and Ferrovial, for the concession of a 132.8-kilometre Chilean motorway, which until now was in the hands of Abertis but which the state has decided to award to another company after the expiry of the current contract.
The project would entail an investment of 892 million dollars (780 million euros), which will improve this infrastructure linking Santiago with the city of San Antonio via Route 78.
Acciona has also recently won a new contract in Australia valued at 191 million dollars (121 million euros) to widen one of the main arteries in the town of Stirling, located some 10 kilometres north of Perth.
The project will connect the avenue to other major arteries in the city, as well as to the Osborne Park industrial area and the Westfield Innaloo shopping centre, and will create 800 jobs.
Among other projects in Australia, Acciona is developing the construction of the runway for the new Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy Bird Walton), for 328 million euros, and the construction of the central section of the Sydney metro, for 1,240 million euros.
