The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, met yesterday at La Moncloa with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Mauricio Claver-Carone, with whom he discussed the economic situation in Latin America.
During the bilateral meeting, the first since Claver-Carone’s election in 2020, other issues relevant to the region were discussed, such as concerns about the impact of the pandemic and advances in vaccination the situation of Venezuelan migrants and refugees, attracting investment to the region and Spain’s position as a strategic partner of Latin America.
“Our country will always lead in Europe in supporting Latin America,” stated Sanchez. “Increasing resources for the region is a priority,” he continued. “Spain is a key player in the process, given our natural inclination towards Latin America, and also because of the leverage effect we can exert on the rest of our European partners,” he added, quoted in a press release from Moncloa.
