The Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid, under the auspices of the Italian Embassy in Madrid and in collaboration with the Società Dantesca Italiana and ADI – Associazione degli Italianisti, presents the exhibition Dante Hypermodern: Illustrations of Dante in the World 1983-2021, which can be visited at the Institute’s headquarters from today until 7 January 2022.
The exhibition offers an effective and representative overview of the most recent phases in the long history of illustrations of Dante’s works. After Gustave Doré’s extremely successful series, many great artists have worked on the search for new ways of representing the Divine Comedy, and some of them, such as Dalí, Guttuso and Rauschenberg, have achieved important results. In particular, the exhibition brings together different experiences, techniques and methodologies, passing through artists who work in a traditional way (Mimmo Paladino, Monika Beisner, or even Tom Phillips). A real journey through contemporary visual culture, multiple and multifaceted, rich in formal proposals, capable of suggesting new interpretative paths. Free admission on presentation of name, surname and telephone number.
