Many Arab ambassadors accredited in Spain went to Retiro Park on Saturday to participate in ‘Catwalk‘, a 7-kilometer walk in defense of the existence and preservation of the Arabian leopard.

The activity was organized by the Embassy of Saudi Arabia and is part of the initiative of the World Organization “Catmospherenow”, which aims to raise awareness of the danger of extinction of this species and to publicize the interest and concern of Saudi Arabia for wildlife.

The walk aroused the interest of many passers-by who did not hesitate to approach to inquire about the initiative. The Saudi Arabian Embassy took advantage of the occasion to make itself known among the Spanish people and to get closer to the citizens of Madrid.

The event took place in the Retiro Park thanks to the coordination with the Mayor’s Office of Madrid. In addition to the Saudi ambassador and the diplomatic staff of the Embassy, participated the dean of the Arab Ambassadors, the Ambassador of Oman, Kifaya Bin Khamis; the Ambassador of Libya, Walid Abu Abdullah; the Ambassador of Kuwait, Ayada Al Saidi; the Ambassador of Mauritania, Kan Boubacar; the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sudan, Husam Al-Din Al-Tayeb; the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Palestine, Safaa Mahlus; and Ambassador Bashar Yaghi.

In September of the same year, a new leopard was born in Al-Ula National Park, prompting the Saudi authorities to highlight the importance of wildlife in the country and Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the protection of protected species.

In 2007, a general cooperation agreement was signed between Spain and Saudi Arabia, article 1 of which refers to the exchange of knowledge and techniques necessary for specific programs in various fields, including wildlife conservation.
