Pedro Brolo Vila, the Guatemalan Minister of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated last Friday the new headquarters of the Embassy of Guatemala in Spain, located at Calle Velázquez, 114. The ceremony began with a speech of thanks from Ambassador Mónica Bolaños.
The Guatemalan minister described the event as “an act of special significance for relations between Guatemala, the Kingdom of Spain and the European Union. It is an honour to be the spokesman for a message of friendship and solidarity from the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Dr. Alejandro Giammattei, who values all the actions undertaken by our Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen dialogue and bilateral cooperation between our two countries”.
“Diplomatic relations between Guatemala and Spain began on 29 May 1863 and throughout these years we have achieved excellent ties based on dynamic historical, cultural, political, economic, linguistic and social data that we share. This new headquarters will provide a positive impetus to deepen the commitments undertaken on issues of benefit to both countries, friends and strategic partners.
Pedro Brolo concluded by emphasising that “my country’s current government administration is firmly committed to continuing to position Guatemala as an investment destination in order to achieve a sustainable, equitable and also environmentally friendly economic recovery”.
The Minister held a meeting that same morning with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, at the Palacio de Viana in Madrid, in which “they reviewed priority issues on the bilateral agenda, thus strengthening the excellent diplomatic relations between the two countries,” according to the Guatemalan Embassy.
The event was attended by Juan Fernández-Trigo, State Secretary for Ibero-America and the Caribbean, along with the ambassadors of Costa Rica, Mexico and the Dominican Republic and representatives of other American legations.
