The Algerian government has decided to change its ambassador to Spain, Toufik Milat, who had been in our country since the end of 2019, and to whom it has entrusted the mission of opening the new Embassy of the Maghreb country in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as The Diplomat has learned from reliable sources.

Although the decision was taken some months ago, Milat’s departure from Spain has come at a time when the Spanish government is trying to obtain sufficient guarantees from Algeria that the supply of gas from its territory to our country will not decrease as a result of the diplomatic crisis between Algiers and Rabat. The conflict between the two countries has led to the closure of the Maghreb gas pipeline through which, via Morocco, more than 20 % of the gas that Algeria supplies to Spain used to arrive.

The sources consulted indicated that the Algerian government has already asked the Spanish authorities for permission to appoint Saïd Moussi, who for the past two years has been Algeria’s consul general in Paris, an important post given the large number of Algerians living and working in France, as ambassador to Madrid.

Saïd Moussi was previously the second-in-command at the Algerian embassy in France, where for some time he acted as chargé d’Affaires.
