Madrid’s Teatro Real opens its doors to Lisbon, the birthplace of Fado

October 13, 2021
in Entertainment, Espectáculos, Leisure

On Sunday 17 October, the Teatro Real de Madrid presents the 11th edition of the Madrid International Fado Festival, which will feature concerts by Carminho, Camané with Mário Laginha and Teresinha Landeiro.

The Madrid Fado Festival will dedicate the programme of its 11th edition to paying tribute to Lisbon, the true cultural epicentre of Fado life. The entire programme will revolve around the figure of the Portuguese capital as a beacon of the Luso genre par excellence. Throughout the day it will be possible to visit the Lisbon exhibition, created by the Fado Museum and the EGEAC with photographs and related texts that give a global image of the genre as a World Heritage Site. There will also be a lecture on the city’s relationship with the genre by Maria de Lurdes Vale and Ivan Dias. Before the music, two emblematic films of the genre will be screened: Luso Lisbon Story, by Wim Wenders, and Calos do Carmo. Un homem no mundo, by Ivan Dias. To round off the festival, three great voices representing the best of three generations that have revolutionised the world of Portuguese song will give concerts: Carminho – 21.30 in the Main Hall; Camané and Mário Laginha at 19.00 in the Main Hall, and Teresinha Landeiro at 17.30 in the Orchestra Hall).
