Carlos Medina has assumed the Presidency of the Association of Spanish Diplomats (ADE), following the appointment of Jorge Hevia as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Medina, deputy director general for North America, had been second vice-president of the ADE since the last elections held at the ADE a year ago, in which Jorge Hevia was elected president.

Until new elections are held at the end of next year, the Board of Directors has had to be reshuffled, since, in addition to Hevia’s departure to take charge of the Embassy in Riyadh, the first vice-president, Reyes Fernández Bulnes, has moved to the second position at the Embassy in Iraq, and the secretary general, Francisco Aguilera, has been appointed ambassador to Indonesia. In addition, one of the members, Manuel Lejarreta, is awaiting approval from the Angolan government to be appointed ambassador to Luanda.

The Board of Directors of the ADE, an organisation that brings together 60% of the members of the diplomatic career, will now be chaired by Carlos Medina, with Cristina Gomáriz and Manuel Selas as vice-presidents. Javier Rupérez, Jorge Domecq, Juan José Buitrago, Ignacio Cartagena and Antonio Torres-Dulce will be on the board.
