The S-80 submarine and the F-110 frigate, as well as Navantia’s experience as an integrator of complex systems and its range of intelligent services will be the main features of the Spanish shipping company’s stand at the second edition of the International Defence and Security Exhibition (Feindef), which will take place from 3 to 5 November at the Ifema exhibition centre in Madrid.
Navantia will participate as a Global Partner in Feindef, the benchmark trade fair for the defence sector in Spain, whose objective is to contribute to the global response to security through innovation and international collaboration so that companies, institutions, universities and other organisations can share their knowledge.
At Feindef, Navantia will show more than 60 international delegations its capabilities as a leading and benchmark company in the defence sector in Spain and the world, as well as its collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and the Spanish Navy. According to its president, Ricardo Domínguez, its presence at the fair means “betting on the capabilities and strategic sovereignty of our country and on the development of an industry with a very high potential for innovation, training, job creation and added value”.
A detailed model of the S-80 submarine will be on display at the Navantia stand, together with an interactive screen with explanatory videos of what is the Spanish shipping company’s most complex technological venture. The S-80 series submarines for the Spanish Navy, under construction in Cartagena, will be among the most advanced conventional submarines in the world and will incorporate technologies that significantly increase their potential. One of their differentiating factors will lie in their atmosphere independent propulsion (AIP) system. While conventional submarines require daily snorkelling operations to recharge their diesel-powered batteries, making them vulnerable to detection and attack, the AIP system will minimise this indiscretion.
As for the F-110 frigate, the same stand will feature a scale model equipped with an augmented reality application where users will be able to select and view the operation of the various systems that make up the ship. This is the main frigate programme for the Spanish Navy, at the cutting edge of technology, to be built at the Ferrol shipyard.
Other Navantia programmes that will be shown in detail are the Navantis training system and the CATIZ/SCOMBA combat system demonstrator, which will help to understand the threat detection process.
At Feindef, the Spanish company will show for the first time a pilot of an interactive catalogue incorporating its offer of intelligent services and a model of the Smart 4000 ship, printed by CEFAN, as an example of application to the design of these technologies.
A modular design configurator of the LPD will also be on display and space will be dedicated on the stand to companies with which it is currently collaborating on different projects: Sami Navantia, SAES, SAINSEl, Telefónica and Correos.
Also, as sponsors, Navantia’s managers will give a series of talks and participate in various events and colloquiums which will take place throughout the Fair on all the relevant topics in the current scenario of the sector, such as the European Patrol Corvette project, remotely operated systems, the digital twin, the 4E project, the supply chain in the defence sector, and the presence of women in the defence sector.
Finally, Navantia will organise an event at its stand on each of the three days of the fair. These events will deal with the joint future of Navantia and the Navy, Navantia’s experience as an integrator of complex systems, and the presentation of the new centres of excellence.
