On the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of the Argentine musician Astor Piazzolla, Casa América presents next Tuesday 26th October at 6.30pm a conversation entitled Fiction within non-fiction, about the process of making the documentary Piazzolla, the years of the shark (Argentina, 2019), working with archives and documentary narration, by Daniel Rosenfeld.
This will be followed at 19.30 by a screening of the aforementioned documentary, released in 2019, which shows how for the first time, 100 years after his birth, the private archives of the composer who revolutionised tango, Astor Piazzolla, are opened by his son for this film portrait, a hypnotic tale about passions, art, family and the mysteries of creation. Piazzolla, the years of the shark is the documentary film that reveals for the first time the private archives of the legendary Argentine bandoneon player Astor Piazzolla, who revolutionised tango and popularised it around the world. The documentary, about the lesser-known side of this artist, presents never-before-told facts about his life, based on the private family archives of the tango star, who marked a before and after in Argentine culture. The audience will be able to discover Piazzolla in first person: his childhood, shark fishing, the years in New York, the mythical story with Carlos Gardel and destiny are all part of this reconstruction of the life of an icon.
