As part of the XXI Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo, the video Dante in musica, produced by the Fondazione Petruzzelli and the IULM University and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IIC Madrid, will be broadcast this evening at 20:00 on the YouTube and Vimeo channels of Instituto Italiano de Cultura of Madrid.
The film offers an evocative journey into Dante’s work to discover the music that the verses of the Sommo Poeta have inspired Italian and international composers. The protagonists are the professionals of the Teatro Petruzzelli, against the backdrop of the beautiful city of Bari and the historic Teatro Petruzzelli. The immortal human story of Paolo and Francesca is remembered in the melodies of Donizetti, Zandonai, Puccini, Rossini. The memory of Pia de Tolomei is in the music of Donizetti. Likewise, the verses of Vita Nova are the great protagonists, with the paraphrase of Liszt and the compositions of Castelnuovo Tedesco and Taneyev.
