Tecnicas Reunidas has started the construction of a new petrochemical complex for the production of polypropylene in the Turkish province of Adana, in the southeast of the country, which is worth 1,000 million euros, of which 550 million euros correspond to the Spanish company, reports Europa Press.

The complex is being promoted by Ceyhan Polipropilen Üretim, a joint venture made up of the Turkish group Rönesans Holding and the Algerian company Sonatrach, which has entrusted its execution, through an EPCC (engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning) contract, to an association formed by Técnicas Reunidas and the construction subsidiary of the Rönesans group itself.

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was in charge of laying the first stone of the project in a ceremony in which he recalled that ‘green’ development will be “one of the most ambitious objectives” for the country: “All the investments we make from now on will be aligned with this perspective, as is the case with this plant”.

The start-up of the construction of this plant joins the work that Técnicas Reunidas is currently carrying out on two other projects in Turkey, consisting of the execution of two terephthalic acid (PTA) plants, one for SASA and the other for SOCAR.

In Russia, the company has been selected by the energy company Lukoil to develop a polypropylene production unit, which will use secondary streams from the refining process at the Russian company’s facilities in Nizhny Novgorod.

The scope of work contracted to Técnicas Reunidas consists of the design engineering (FEED) of the project and a cost estimate for its possible conversion to a future EPC phase of the facility.

The complex will become the largest polymer production centre integrated into a refinery in Russia. In addition, the project will optimise the use of raw materials in the production process, thereby improving both the overall efficiency of the complex and its environmental footprint.
