From tomorrow until 23 October, the play Emilia returns to the Teatro del Barrio on the occasion of the centenary of the death of the novelist and precursor of women’s rights, Emilia Pardo Bazán (1851-1921).
Emilia shows the struggle of this writer who, at the end of the 19th century, was determined to be herself, that is to say, to conduct herself in accordance with her desires and will to write and participate in public life. The author of Los Pazos de Ulloa tried unsuccessfully to join the Royal Academy of Language, and her insistence earned her the reprobation of many of her contemporaries, even after she had won the admiration of some others. But, above all the controversy, she stood out as a strong, intelligent and extraordinarily amusing woman. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
