Music and theatre at the Instituto Francés with ‘Urban Brahms’

The French-Iranian pianist Nima Sarkechik (pictured) performs Urban Brahms, a vision of the music of the German composer Johanes Brahms, accompanied by Miss Beige, the character created by the Madrid actress and artist Ana Esmith, this evening at the Instituto Francés in Madrid at 8pm. The concert will take place in two parts: one hour by pianist Nima Sarkechik, followed by a 15-minute performance by Miss Beige.

Urban Brahms, created in 2016 by Nima Sarkechik, seeks to link seemingly opposing artistic universes through classical music. Starting from Brahms’ humble origins as the son of innkeepers, he created this project with the aim of giving classical music a popular dimension. The Urban Brahms project aims to treat art as a language, considering that each artistic language depends on a specific social world. Rejecting any value judgement, this approach is based on the search for non-hierarchical links between the arts and therefore between people. This performance will therefore mark the meeting of two very different artistic languages: that of the French-Iranian pianist Nima Sarkechik and that of Miss Beige, the alter ego created by Ana Smith. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
