The Diplomat
German Ambassador Wolfgang Dold yesterday commemorated German Unity Day with a video broadcast on social media from Madrid’s Berlin Park.
In his speech, Dold said that German politicians and citizens celebrated the anniversary of German reunification on 3 October in the city of Halle, in Saxony-Anhalt, under the slogan “Together creating the future”, which took place 31 years ago when the German Democratic Republic (GDR) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), “bringing to an end a painful and long separation of a country, a people, families and friends”.
The ambassador recalled that there are pieces of the Berlin Wall in Berlin Park and said that these pieces “not only bear witness to a historic turning point in German and European history, but also to the promise that a united Germany made to Europe: together we are creating the future, and that is what we will always continue to promote together with our European partners”.
In addition, the German Embassy in Madrid uploaded several videos on how to explain German Unity to various groups of people, such as children, artists, or photographers.
