The Spanish National Intelligence Centre (CNI) and the Colombian Ministry of Defence have signed an agreement for the reciprocal exchange and protection of classified information.
The agreement, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) last Friday, aims to establish rules and procedures for the security of Classified Information exchanged between the CNI and the Colombian Ministry of Defence, its natural persons, bodies or accredited entities.
Among other things, the agreement states that Classified Information provided by the CNI to the Colombian Ministry of Defence or by the latter to the CNI will not be released to Third Parties without the prior written approval of the party providing it. Neither party may invoke the agreement to obtain information that the other party has obtained from a Third Party.
The agreement will be in force for five years, renewable for periods of five years, unless one of the parties decides not to renew it, which it must notify the other party six months before the end of the agreement.
