On the occasion of Hangeul Day, which is celebrated annually on 9 October, the Centro Cultural Coreano in Spain (CCCE) has organized this year an event entitled: Hangeul Week 2021, which takes place from today until 10 October.
During this week you can enjoy many activities and learn about Hangeul both through social networks and the CCCE website as well as events that will be held at the Korean Cultural Centre (Paseo de la Castellana, 15, Madrid).
The Hangeul was invented by King Sejong the Great in the mid-15th century with the aim of giving many people access to literacy, one of King Sejong’s main concerns. The Hangeul was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Every year the King Sejong Literacy Prize is awarded to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the eradication of illiteracy. The inclusion of “King Sejong” in the name of the prize can be seen as a tactical recognition of his greatest achievement: the creation of Hangeul, which is easy to learn and use.
In addition to other activities, the online programme will include a social media contest that will seek to promote elements of Spanish gastronomy or representative tourist sites in Spain in the Korean language. Those interested should follow the CCCE on Facebok @CCCspain or Instagram @CCCspain, draw a picture or take a photograph of a typical Spanish dish or representative tourist site in Spain and write its name in Korean. It will also be possible to participate by writing the names of family and friends in Korean. Finally, participants will post it on these social networks accompanied by the hashtag #semana_hangeul2021. The CCCE will reward the participants who get the most “likes” with gifts.
