The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, called yesterday for the unity of the international community to ensure the departure of Afghan collaborators from different countries and to guarantee the arrival of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after the crisis generated by the military victory of the Taliban.
During his participation in the first multilateral coordination meeting on Afghanistan, the minister stressed that the objective of the international community must be to guarantee the “rapid and safe” departure of the people included in the lists of the different countries and defended the coordination between partners and allies and the need for humanitarian aid to reach the most vulnerable. “The more united we are, the more impact we will have,” he added. Albares also called for a regional approach to be maintained because this multi-sectoral crisis has potential migratory, economic and security effects for the region.
Held telematically, the Conference dealt with four points: free movement, counter-terrorism cooperation, humanitarian assistance and diplomatic issues. The meeting was attended by the foreign ministers of the United States, Germany, Australia, Canada, France, India, Italy, Japan, Norway, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Uzbekistan, as well as the Secretary General of NATO and representatives of the European Union and the United Nations.
