The Instituto Francés broadcasts Georges Bizet’s opera ‘Carmen’

In collaboration with the Opéra Bastille, the Théâtre de l’Instituto Francés in Madrid is broadcasting Georges Bizet’s comic opera Carmen this evening at 20:00.

Although it has become the world’s most popular opera, Carmen remains susceptible to the newest approaches, like any universal masterpiece. Visionary director Dmitri Tcherniakov’s conception promises vivid emotions: like Mérimée, his show depicts Carmen through the eyes of Joseph. And in the vertigo of a precise direction of actors, under the unleashed baton of Pablo Heras-Casado, the eternal dance of two of love until death is repeated. She was born free, she will die free. Sometimes a cigarette seller, sometimes a smuggler, also a bit of a witch and often in love. Able to make Don José desert or to cajole the bullfighter Escamillo, she is the ally of love, that rebellious bird and son of Bohemia who resembles her so much. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
