The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, received yesterday at the Palacio de Viana in Madrid the Swedish Minister for European Union Affairs, Hans Dahlgren, to coordinate the priorities of the two in view of their consecutive presidencies of the Council of the EU.

“I have met with Hans Dahlgren, Swedish Minister for EU Affairs, to coordinate our priorities in view of the consecutive presidencies of our countries in the Council of the EU,” Albares simply stated through his Twitter account. Sweden and Spain will hold the rotating presidency of the EU throughout 2023, the Nordic country in the first half of the year and our country in the second half.

As reported by the Swedish Prime Minister’s Office, the agenda of Dahlgren – who traveled to Madrid “to, among other things, prepare the Swedish presidency of the EU in 2023” and discuss “strategic autonomy and the rule of law” – included meetings with Albares, the Secretary of State for the European Union, Juan González-Barba (with whom he spoke about bilateral relations and the European agenda), and the director of the European Union Department of the Presidency of the Government, Aurora Mejía.
