The establishments participating in the Restaurants Against Hunger solidarity campaign will offer, until November 15, a solidarity menu or dish on their menu with the aim of donating part of its cost to the fight against hunger in Spain and the world.

The twelfth edition of Restaurants Against Hunger, which began yesterday September 16 and will conclude on November 15, is an initiative of Action Against Hunger to fight against hunger and child malnutrition in Spain and in the nearly 50 countries in which this humanitarian organization works.

“The hospitality sector has always shown a strong vocation for solidarity, an exemplary resilience and capacity to mobilize to help people in vulnerable situations,” said the director of communication and fundraising of Action Against Hunger, Laura Fontanet Gay, during a press conference organized at the MasterChef Restaurant. “Fighting hunger is in its DNA and for the past twelve years it has been proven, as evidenced by the participation of more than 9,000 establishments throughout Spain in the past eleven editions,” she added.

“Once again this year, the hotel and catering industry does not want to stand aside in the face of social inequalities and wants to do its bit with this campaign,” said José Antonio Aparicio, vice president of Hostelería de España. “The feeling of solidarity has always been ingrained in the hospitality industry, helping those who cannot eat for those who do have the possibility to do so in our premises is an unbeatable gesture,” he added.

As part of the campaign, Action Against Hunger has launched a digital guide, called Good Restaurants, for anyone interested in visiting the restaurants participating in the campaign.  The guide features everything from fine dining establishments to neighborhood tapas bars.

Restaurants Against Hunger is the largest solidarity initiative of the hospitality industry in Spain. Since 2009, more than 9,000 restaurants have participated, raising more than 1.4 million euros to fight child malnutrition. This year, the initiative will direct its efforts to support the feeding of the families most affected by the pandemic in Spain. Restaurants Against Hunger has been backed by chefs such as Mario Sandoval, Joan Roca, Quique Dacosta and Susi Díaz, as well as the finalist of the last edition of the MasterChef contest, María Morales. It also has the support of Hostelería de España, the special sponsorship of Makro, El Pozo Alimentación, Calidad Pascual and Cover Manager, the collaboration of MasteChef Restaurant, and the disinterested logistics of Fundación SEUR.
