Gilles Kepel writes on The crisis in the ‘Mediterranean and the Middle East’

Author: Gilles Kepel.

Chaos has settled in and around the Middle East. The horror of the ‘caliphate’ imposed by Daesh in Syria and Iraq between 2014 and 2017 and its terrorism on a planetary scale were a paradoxical consequence of the ‘Arab Springs’ of 2011. How did this chaos settle in and how can we get out of it? In this book, Gilles Kepel explains the current crisis in the Middle East by placing the events and conflicts in their historical and political context.

Emerging from Chaos is a book based on four decades of studies, stays and experiences in situ, analyses and conferences, and some twenty books published by its author, one of the world’s most renowned experts on the Islamic world. A book that combines academic analytical rigour with the most informative character, accessible to any reader who is curious to know what is happening in the Eastern Mediterranean, a world much closer to us than we think and which will condition our future depending on how it emerges from the chaos.
