The Diplomat
The diplomat Gerardo Fueyo has taken charge of the Deputy Directorate General for the Pacific, Southeast Asia and the Philippines at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Fueyo fills the vacancy left by Ricardo Losa, who was appointed ambassador to Afghanistan on 3 August, but has not been able to take up his post since the outbreak of the crisis in that country after the Taliban seizure of power.
Gerardo Fueyo had been posted since 2017 as counsellor at the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See, after having been deputy director general for European Union countries.
A diplomat since 1999, he has also been posted to Haiti, the United Kingdom, India and France, and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked in the Gibraltar Affairs Office and the Human Rights Office, as well as in the Deputy Directorate General for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
Fueyo, who holds a degree in Economics, is also the author of a short sociological study on the diplomatic career between 1989 and 2019.
