The Diplomat
Finland’s new ambassador to Spain, Sari Rautio, took up her post in Madrid last week, replacing Tiina Jortika-Laitinen, who, after four years in our country, has returned to Helsinki, where she will take up the post of ambassador for Arctic and Polar Affairs.
Sari Rautio was, since 2018 and until her appointment, head of the Political Security and Crisis Management Unit at the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to that, she was head of the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy Unit, after having served as deputy ambassador at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC) in Brussels.
During her diplomatic career, the new ambassador has also held other positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was posted to the Finnish Embassies in Ethiopia and the Russian Federation.
