Concert by the trio Zuaraz at Casa América’s Vayayó Festival

Next Thursday, September 9th at 8pm, Casa América presents Zuaraz, a trio of twenty-somethings living in Madrid led by the Mexican brothers Santiago and Sebastián Hernández together with Xoán Domínguez from Santiago de Compostela, as part of its Music Festival Vayayó.

Today we live in a time when the genre ‘popular song’ is almost a protected species within contemporary music. Fortunately, there are still musical anthropologists like Zuaraz who, despite their young age, manage not only to recover, but also to recode and redefine the legacy of Latin American popular song: bolero, cantina songs, son jarocho, Armando Manzanero, Los Panchos, Lucho Gatica or Agustín Lara, but with nods to contemporary symbols such as Daniel, me estás matando, Natalia Lafourcade or Silvana Estrada; And, at the same time, an aesthetic that oscillates between the groove of Vulfpeck or Snarky Puppy and the unleashed lyrics that cohabit, like them, between the popular culture of Madrid and the spirit of their native Mexico City. Limited capacity. Buy tickets here.
