The Diplomat
US Government yesterday transferred 350 Afghan nationals from the Rota base to the military base in the State of Virginia, as part of the ‘Allies Refuge’ operation.
Some 1,700 Afghan collaborators from the United States have already arrived in Rota, after another plane landed yesterday morning with 200 from Kabul.
Spain made a commitment to Joe Biden’s Administration to temporarily host up to 4,000 Afghans in Rota and Moron for a maximum of fourteen days before their transfer to the United States. The Moron base has not received any of the flights.
Yesterday, in statements to journalists during the visit to the device designed to receive the collaborators, Rear Admiral Ben Reynolds, director of maritime command of the US naval forces in Europe and Africa, said that some of the flights leaving Afghanistan “make a stopover” while others go directly “to Rota”, where “700 people are working to assist the refugees”.
In this sense, he pointed out that “all the soldiers receive training in this type of unarmed operations” and that “all those who work at the Base have had several days of training”.
