Antonio García Roger has been appointed new Deputy Director General for Andean Countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He will fill the vacancy left by Lorea Arribalzaga, recently appointed ambassador to Slovakia.

In his post, García Roger will be in charge of Spain’s relations with Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela.

A diplomat since 2004, García Roger was currently assigned to the cabinet of the Secretariat of State for International Cooperation, where he arrived in 2019, when he was still in charge of Ibero-America and the Caribbean. Throughout his career, he has held various posts in the Ibero-American region, such as deputy consul in Bogotá and ‘number two’ at the Spanish Embassy in Panama.

In addition, between 2016 and 2019 he worked in Colombia for the European External Action Service.

He was also posted to the Embassy in Manila and in Madrid he held positions in the Human Rights Office and in the Consular Emergency Support Unit.
