Técnicas Reunidas has been awarded a project in Qatar valued at 500 million dollars (425 million euros) to expand the onshore facilities associated with the production of liquefied natural gas, which will expand the network of this energy source in the Arab country by more than 40%.
The contract awarded by Qatar Petroleum to the Spanish company includes the engineering, procurement and construction of these facilities, located in the North Field, in the northeast of the Qatari peninsula, as reported by Técnicas Reunidas to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
The project, to be executed over 41 months, includes the construction of liquefied product unloading lines, the gas pipeline for connection to Qatar Petroleum’s domestic gas network and the expansion of the storage and product loading facilities at the Ras Laffan Terminal Operations (RLTO).
Técnicas Reunidas must also execute the expansion of the monoethylene glycol (MEG) storage and transport facilities, the CO2 sequestration pipeline and the CO2 injection facilities at the wellhead.
Although the initial amount of this award is estimated at more than $500 million, the project includes several additional options that Qatar Petroleum will be able to implement within three months of signing the contract.
These options relate to an expansion of the storage and loading of liquefied products for the future expansion of two additional LNG trains, which would increase the amount of the project awarded to Técnicas Reunidas.
With this contract, Técnicas Reunidas consolidates its presence in this country, where it has been operating since 2006. In this case, it is the largest non-associated natural gas field in the world, i.e. not linked to an oil well.
