The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday cancelled a vacancy advertisement for the Embassy in Kabul, which had been published in the morning in the BOE, only a day after the Taliban took effective control of the country.
Diplomatic sources explained to Europa Press that the announcement was made some time ago, given the need to fill what was considered an essential post, that of communications operator, and the relevant procedures were initiated. “Its publication in the BOE on Monday was a mere coincidence,” they said.
As a result, given the change in circumstances in Afghanistan, the department headed by José Manuel Albares gave instructions to annul the vacancy announcement, and the annulment should appear in the BOE in the near future.
Specifically, a communications operator position was offered for the Embassy in Kabul for which “experience and knowledge in Foreign Service; experience and knowledge in local area and wide area networks and handling of equipment and communications systems” as well as “Windows 7, 10 and 20xx Server operating systems, Android and data security mechanisms” in addition to Office and Outlook were requested. Knowledge of “English and/or local language” and “possess or be able to obtain personal security clearance” are also required.
The operator would work under the guidelines and supervision of the Subdirectorate-General for Informatics and Communications and Networks, in charge of encryption equipment and secure communications systems, as well as supporting the installation, configuration and maintenance of computer and communications equipment and systems.
In addition, the person chosen should provide technical support and support to users in the areas of office automation, e-mail, Internet navigation and computer applications, as well as consular emergency functions entrusted by the head of mission, according to the text published in the BOE.
