The Bolivian Ambassador, Nardi Suxo Iturry, presided last Friday over the traditional Floral Offering in front of the monument to the Liberator Simón Bolívar located in Madrid’s Parque del Oeste, in commemoration of the 196th Anniversary of Bolivian Independence.

“With the Spanish State, the Ambassador commented, our bilateral relations have been healthy and increasingly strengthened for 174 years, a tradition of great relevance in matters of cultural exchange, trade and cooperation. Among others, concrete lines of action have been designed that are giving sufficient proof of the will to grow and strengthen these relations”.

“The 2021 bilateral agenda,” continued Nardi Suxo Iturry, “has been nourished by important issues in different areas as was reflected in the last meeting of political consultations held on 22 March in the city of La Paz, where the will of the Plurinational State of Bolivia and the Spanish State to continue promoting the issues of the environment, education, judicial reforms and technical cooperation, among others, was made clear, and we are sure that we will continue working along the same path.”

“The support received from the government in the fight against covid-19 needs to be fought with solidarity and complementarity. Our governments have demonstrated with concrete actions the good bilateral relations that unite us, through the donation of medical supplies and medicines to mitigate and confront the pandemic in Bolivian territory, donations that were repeated at various times, reaching the figure of two million euros. It is worth highlighting the recent donation of 585,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the KOVACS mechanism, prioritising coordination and solidarity with Bolivia”.

In her speech, Ambassador Suxo, vindicated the outstanding role of Bolivian women as heirs of the brave fighters for independence. “Listening to the people and governing by obeying the people, she said, is the policy that the state has extended to diplomatic relations, which is why it is important to deepen dialogue, agreement, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Bolivia is a peaceful country that does not believe in violence and much less in the imposition of force before reason; we defend the self-determination of peoples. Bolivia will always extend its arms to brotherly countries as it has done so far with dignity and integrity.

“Our international relations are based on the diplomacy of the peoples in order to live well, which is based on complementarity, unity, solidarity and exchange, seeking to strengthen relations between our governments and our peoples.”

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Spain, members of parliament, councillors, representatives of political and social organisations, as well as many members of the Bolivian community living in Spain.
