The Instituto Italiano de Cultura de Madrid is collaborating in the 5th edition of the Fiesta Corral Cervantes / Teatro del Siglo de Oro, supporting the presentation of the play Lo fingido verdadero by the Italian company Teatro a Canone, which will take place from 10 to 14 August at 9 p.m. in the Parque Madrid Río / Paseo de la Chopera.
This tragicomedy, written by the playwright Lope de Vega, tells the story of the life and martyrdom of San Ginés, patron saint of actors and in whose honour, until not so long ago, masses were celebrated. Throughout his life, Lope de Vega Carpio was faithful to his womanising and conquering spirit, a true Don Giovanni. At the age of 48 he entered the Congregation of the Slaves of the Blessed Sacrament in Madrid. Absorbed in his spiritual retreat, he wrote Lo fingido verdadero, which was published in 1620.
