The State Secretary for Ibero-America and Spanish in the World, Juan Fernández-Trigo, has chosen María Salcedo as Head of his Cabinet, sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told The Diplomat.

María Salcedo was currently assigned to the Directorate General of Protocol, where she was responsible for Travel and Visits.

Between 2018 and 2020 she was a counsellor at the Spanish Embassy in Havana, where she coincided with Fernández-Trigo, who was, at the time, the ambassador to Cuba.

A graduate in Law and a diplomat since 2008, her first posts were in the Directorate General of External Communication, until 2011, when she was sent to the Embassy in Beijing. Then, in 2015, she became the second-in-command at the Embassy in Thailand.
