The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, went to Lebanon yesterday to visit the Spanish troops deployed at the Miguel de Cervantes base in Marjayoun, in the framework of the UN mission (UNIFIL).
Robles, whose visit will last two days, traveled accompanied by the Chief of Defense Staff (JEMAD), Admiral Teodoro López Calderón; the Secretary of State for Defense, Esperanza Casteleiro; and the commander of the Operations Command, Lieutenant General Francisco Braco.
After landing at the Rafiq Hariri International Airport in Beirut, where she was received by the Spanish Ambassador to Lebanon, José María Ferré, Robles went to the base to visit the 600 Spanish military personnel who are monitoring the cessation of hostilities and guaranteeing the security of the civilian population in the framework of the UN mission’s operation Free Hidalgo.
