The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has summoned the spokespersons of the parliamentary groups in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress of Deputies to a meeting next Friday, the 30th.

The meeting is expected to be held telematically, as many of the spokespersons are away from Madrid, as there are no sessions this month in the Lower House.

It will be Albares’ first contact with the spokespersons of the different political groups in the Foreign Affairs Committee since he arrived at the Palace of Santa Cruz.

Last Wednesday, the Permanent Deputation of the Congress of Deputies rejected the demand of the Popular Group, which, supported by Vox and Ciudadanos, demanded the immediate presence of the new ministers in Congress so that they could explain their plans. The Permanent Deputation agreed that the appearance would take place in September.

The PP also failed in its request for both Albares and the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, to give explanations on the entry into Spain of the leader of the Polisario Front, Brahim Gali. The PP also unsuccessfully asked Albares to explain Spain’s position on the protests that have been taking place in Cuba.
