The German government yesterday declared all of Spain, including the Balearic Islands, a high-risk zone due to the advance of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced.
The change in the travel recommendations for Spain will come into effect from next Tuesday at 00.00 hours. With this new classification, travellers from Spain will have to observe a 10-day quarantine immediately upon arrival in Germany, reports Europa Press.
However, travellers who have been fully vaccinated or can prove that they have recovered from the disease will be exempt from the quarantine.
However, the quarantine can be terminated after five days, provided that the person can present a negative coronavirus test.
According to the German travel association DRV, some 200,000 German tourists are on holiday in Spain on package tours.
Of these, 60 percent are in the Balearic Islands, 30 percent in the Canary Islands and the rest on the mainland. In addition, it is estimated that there are another 200,000 German holidaymakers in the country on private trips.
