As part of the activities to pay a last tribute to the President of the Republic, H.E. Jovenel Moïse, yesterday afternoon the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti organised a patriotic vigil to which the Community and friends of Haiti were invited to gather in fraternity and solidarity.
Numerous members of this community and friends of Haiti attended the event. During the vigil, several videos were projected showing details of President Moïse’s life and praising his work during his political career in defence of democracy and human rights.
The first secretary of the Embassy, Carl-Eric Barthélus, thanked, on behalf of the Ambassador, Dr Louis Marie Montfort Saintil (who had travelled to Haiti to attend the state funeral of the late President Moïse), those present for their kindness and their willingness to pay tribute to the figure of the President. “We thank you for all your words of support, solidarity and condolences to the presidential family, the government and the Haitian people in this very painful situation.
The attendees maintained throughout the event a respectful and very fraternal attitude, giving all the members of the Embassy the greatest of support and hope for the future of Haiti.
As already announced by the Embassy, a mass in memory of the late President will be celebrated at a later date at the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel, Calle San Justo, 4, 28005, Madrid. The date and time of this celebration will be communicated at a later date.
