The diplomat Pablo Rupérez is the new director of the Cabinet of the State Secretary for the European Union, Juan González-Barba, who has been confirmed in his post by the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, diplomatic sources told The Diplomat.
Rupérez fills the vacancy left by Diego Martínez Balío, who was appointed Director of the Cabinet of Albares, to replace Camilo Villarino.
Pablo Rupérez had been posted since 2016 as Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the European Union. He entered the diplomatic career in 2001 and has been posted to the Spanish Embassies in Iraq, Estonia, Serbia and the Czech Republic. He has also been Deputy Director of the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.
