CAF Group has closed two tramway supply extension contracts in Belgium and Australia for a combined contracting volume of close to one hundred million euros, the Spanish railway company said.
These contracts “once again demonstrate the positioning of the CAF Group as one of the leaders in the world tramway market”, continued the company, which recalled that CAF streetcars already run in a long list of cities around the world, including Amsterdam, Budapest, Boston, Pittsburgh, Kaohsiung, Mauritius, Nantes, Belgrade, Utrecht, Edinburgh and Stockholm.
On the one hand, the Flanders Transport Company, De Lijn (Belgium), has approved the purchase of 18 additional streetcars from CAF. These new streetcars correspond to the fifth batch of the framework contract signed with CAF in October 2017, which covered the manufacture and supply of up to 146 streetcars divided into batches that would be activated by the customer. De Lijn is the Flemish public bus and streetcar operator, which carries around 530 million passengers annually.
On the other hand, Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), in Australia, has awarded CAF the supply of four Urbos 100 LRV units of five modules for the Inner West Light Rail Line of the city of Sydney, as well as the corresponding spare parts. These new units will be delivered in early 2023 and will join the current fleet of 12 CAF Urbos units that have been serving the Inner West Light Rail Line since 2014.
