Author: Josep Calvet.

The Centro Sefarad-Israel presents the book La carta olvidada. Las gemelas separadas por el nazismo, (The forgotten letter. The twins separated by Nazism), by Josep Calvet.

Hidden among the documentation kept by the owners of an old hostel in Sort, a letter written in 1944 by a young Jewish girl who had fled the Holocaust through the Pyrenees was discovered in 2017. This letter, addressed to her twin living in Tel Aviv, made a long journey back and forth to remain forgotten for seven decades. This book tells how the author manages to locate the addressee through an investigation that allows him to reconstruct the lives of the two sisters separated by Nazism in 1939. In this Jewish family’s forced journey through Poland, Germany, France, Spain and Israel, the impact of the post-war period and the deportation in the Lleida municipality of Sort plays a key role.
