The Diplomat
Both outgoing Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya and incoming Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares chose their respective Twitter accounts yesterday to publicly thank Pedro Sánchez for trusting them.
González Laya, who is passionate about “Twitter”, where she has been reflecting all her official and some private activities, thanked the President of the Government, after learning that he had decided to dispense with her, for the trust he showed in appointing her a year and a half ago.
“Serving my country and its citizens has been a great honour,” she wrote, adding that “nothing would have been possible without the support and work of the great family” of the Ministry, whom she thanked and acknowledged for their “good work”.
González Laya’s work in the Ministry has been criticised on many occasions by many of the diplomats and civil servants in his department, the former for his tardiness in making decisions about their destinations, and the latter, above all, for his lack of diligence in dealing with the vaccinations of workers abroad.
For her part, Albares, also on her Twitter account, thanked Sánchez for his confidence in her appointment and pointed out that there is no “greater honour” than representing Spain abroad and that she will spare no effort in doing so.
